The 2026 Deep Tech Fellowship cohort was announced this week, drawn from 1,840 applications across 210 institutions. Twenty-four fellows will each receive a twelve-month stipend, a lab placement, and a named alumni mentor for the duration.

The selection panel deliberately weighted persistence over pedigree. Nine of the twenty-four are the first in their family to attend university; eleven applied from institutions outside the metro tier.

Placements this year span six host labs, with the largest concentration in semiconductor design — a direct response to industry demand signalled by alumni working in the sector.

Fellows begin in September. Applications for the 2027 cohort open in January, and community members receive the brief two weeks ahead of the public announcement.
